Modern bathrooms are designed for comfort and performance, and shower heads are essential for keeping up with the trend. These days, bathroom design favors bigger models loaded with more advanced features. Manufacturers have different sizing methods, but generally, big shower heads start at six inches and can reach up 14 inches in diameter. Big shower heads have steadier water flow, and despite their size, are considered more stylish than standard-sized shower heads. They also come in more shapes besides the traditional round head, the most common being squares and spirals. Below are some of the popular designs for big shower heads. Rain domes Rain domes, also called rainfall shower heads, are the most common style for big shower heads. As their name suggests, they are designed to imitate rainfall, with a flat, finely perforated nozzle. They are attached to fixed or movable arms holding them facedown over the shower area. Most rain domes have multiple water flow settings, allowing you to choose from a fine, soft mist to powerful massage jets. Some are also steam showers, producing moist water vapor for a sauna-like feel. Recessed shower heads Recessed shower heads are fixed into a cavity in the ceiling, with the nozzle level with the rest of the surface. Because they occupy space inside the ceiling, recessed installation works well with big shower heads. Their smooth, seamless look fits well into minimalist-themed bathrooms. They are especially useful for small bathrooms, where space-saving is a must. The drawback is that they cannot be tilted or adjusted, so you need to plan the shower’s position carefully before installing. Spinning shower heads Spinning shower heads have rotating nozzles that spray water in multiple directions. Many spinning heads actually have small central nozzles with several arms extending from it in a star or octopus pattern. The arms are perforated as well, so that the water streams move as they are released. Spinning shower heads are great for bathrooms with large shower areas bit limited space for ceiling installation, Massaging shower heads These are high-end shower heads designed for luxury or spa-style bathrooms. Their distinguishing feature is a specialized nozzle with massage jet outlets, often arranged so that each jet targets a specific part of the body. Many are large enough for two people, with two sets of massage jets fitted onto both sides. They can also be recessed, tilting, or flush-mounted. Some of the high-end models are fitted with steam generators, allowing them to function as steam showers as well. Waterfall shower heads Also considered luxury shower heads, waterfalls are distinguished from other types by a solid stream of water instead of several small jets. Instead of a perforated nozzle, waterfalls have water receptacles with slit bottoms, through which the “waterfall” comes out. Waterfalls usually have large but sleek-looking bodies that fit in with contemporary bathroom designs. They require strong water flow, however, so they may not work well in bathrooms with low water pressure. |
