Installing a showerhead is relatively easy, as little or no tools are required. Sold in a kit, a showerhead comes with a set of instructions guiding the homeowner on its proper installation. However, not all showerheads are installed in the same way. A showerhead comes in fixed, mounted, dual head, and body jet types. Depending on the showerhead, installation can be done by the homeowner himself or by a professional. Listed below are the basic rules to follow when installing a showerhead: 1. Take the showerhead holder, which is usually in the form of a curved pipe, and screw it in the pre-made hole on your bathroom wall or tile. Gradually turn the pipe until you feel it is secure. For further tightening, use the wrench and turn the pipe halfway around. 2. Screw in the decorative flange through the curved pipe. A decorative flange is used to cover the hole made on the bathroom wall to give it a finished look. 3. If your showerhead comes with a control valve, install it next. Just make sure your shower’s temperature-control gadget has been set to the desired temperature (see manufacturer’s instructions) before you attach the control valve. 4. Attach the second flange to the control valve using several screws. Use a screwdriver if necessary. 5. Install the shower handle using several screws. The handle allows you to turn your shower on and off. 6. Once the handle has been installed, turn the handle to the “On” side to check if your shower has running water. If running water goes through the curved pipe, it is time to screw in the showerhead next. 7. Take a Teflon tape and wrap it over the curved pipe’s threads (grooves around the tip of the pipe). Place the showerhead over the pipe and hand-tighten it. To make it more secure, tighten it a little more with a wrench. Showerhead installation tips To ensure a successful showerhead installation, follow these simple tips: 1. Gather all needed equipment, which includes your showerhead kit and the instruction manual. The instruction manual comes with a list of tools you will be needing like a towel, wrench, or Teflon tape. 2. Read the installation instructions carefully. Make sure you have read the whole installation process before proceeding. Having the installation procedure nearby allows you to refer to it quickly in case you have forgotten a step. 4. Always hand-tighten first. Hand tightening allows you to feel if the gadget is already secure. Only use a wrench to tighten for the last time. Wrap a towel over the polished fixture to prevent the wrench from denting or scratching the shiny surface. 3. Ask for help. This only applies if you are unsure of your skills or if you would be more confident having a more experienced person around. Call on a friend to help you or consult your manufacturer to make sure you have understood the installation process completely. |
