Tips on Getting a Shabby Chic Look for Your Bathroom

Decorating ideas for small bathroomsShabby chic is a relatively new trend in bathroom design. It can be regarded as a genuinely obscure blend of style and neglect. Also, it’s a style that is quite difficult to create especially in a bathroom space. If you want to go for this style in your bathroom, you will have to take some bold decisions as the shabby chic look is a real mismatch of products and styles. The key to shabby chic decoration in a bathroom space is all about choosing neutral tones with just a few dark colors. For instance, you can choose a flat or matte paint for the bathroom walls.

Also, yellows and golds work extremely well when trying to create a shabby chic design for your bathroom space. In order to create a shabby chic design in your bathroom, you will have to start with the walls. The bathroom walls should be painted in creamy whites, pinks or muted greens in order to get the wanted effect. Also, you can cover your bathroom walls with floral patterned wallpaper – go for pale yellow, pink or muted green floral patterns.

Next, you will have to repaint the sink. Start by sanding it. Keep in mind that it’s better to have an unfinished bathroom vanity to start with. Also, if your bathroom sink or cabinet is already finished or painted, all you will have to do is to strip off its finish and start with a quality primer. This primer has to be applied by using a brush or roller or you can go for a spray primer in order to make things a little bit easier and cleaner.

Next, you will have to let this primer dry completely in order to continue to your next step. Painting the bathroom vanity is what comes next and you will have to choose a dark or light wood color. Keep in mind that this isn’t going to be the final color of your bathroom vanity. Instead, this color is the one that will be shown through on all the distressed parts of your shabby chic bathroom vanity. Soon after this paint has dried, you will have to paint your bathroom vanity with an antique pale, white or pale pink, yellow, green or blue in order to provide it with a final coat.

Once this final coat is completely dry, you will have to distress your bathroom vanity by lightly sanding its corners and edges in order to simulate extra years of use.   For instance, you may go for Mr. Clean Magic Eraser in order to remove all the areas of paint in order to simulate extra wear. You will have to continue distressing your bathroom vanity until you get the look you want for it. Replacing the toilet, bathtub and sink is what comes next when trying to create a shabby chic look for your bathroom space. For instance, you can go for claw foot bathtubs, Victorian style pedestal sinks and a water closer style for your shabby chic toilet in order to get the overall look.

You need to replace your bat mats as well in order to complete the shabby chic look – for instance, you should go for bath mats in yellow, muted pink or green floral patterns. Pink roses are regarded as one of the best choices when it comes to creating a shabby chic bathroom. You must not forget about the bathroom accessories as they are necessary in order to complete the overall look. Go for white, yellow, pale green or pink towels, distressed cabinets and towel racks as they can truly complete your shabby chic bathroom space.
