Using Color To Your Advantage In Small Bathroom Designs
Creating a design scheme for a small bathroom can be difficult because of the limited amount of space that you have to work with.  Every decision can make the room appear smaller and more crowded, not the appearance you want for a bathroom that is supposed to feel comfortable to the people that are using it.  When creating a design scheme for a small bathroom, the use of color is very important to creating a design that is both attractive and appropriate for a smaller area.

The first thing that many people are concerned about when creating a design scheme for a small bathroom is the color that will be used on the walls of the bathroom.  When choosing a wall color for a small bathroom, it is best to focus on colors that are light and pale as they will make the small area of the bathroom appear more open and spacious.  Using darker colors or colors that are bright on the walls of a small bathroom will make the bathroom appear narrow and claustrophobic.

The ceiling of the small bathroom should always be painted white or a shade of the wall color so pale that it appears to be a tinted white.  The color of the ceiling should be as light as possible to give the appearance of height in the room, which helps to open the room up even more.  In some cases, the lights for the bathroom are also placed within the ceiling as recessed lighting to increase the illusion of height in the bathroom.

If the homeowner would like to use dark, bright, or bold colors within the small bathroom, they should be used as an accent only and carefully controlled so that they do not dominate the room.  The homeowner must remember that the more things that are present in the bathroom, the smaller the bathroom will feel so any accent pieces should be small or flat enough that they do not take up much space in the bathroom.

If items that are brightly colored are placed into the small bathroom as accent pieces, they will draw the eye of anyone that walks into the bathroom because they are so different from their surroundings.  To give the illusion of length in the room, the brightly colored objects should be placed as far away from the door as possible, so that the person's eye will naturally follow the entire length of the room to focus on the brightly colored object at the end of the room.

Sometimes, people like to use dark colored items for a stark contrast to the light colors of the small bathroom.  Any items that are very dark or black should be placed at chest level or below to avoid breaking up the flow of the walls and the ceiling and making the room appear smaller.  Different colors can be used in different ways around a small bathroom to create a unique bathroom design that you can enjoy, but following this advice on the placement of colors can make a small bathroom more comfortable than you could imagine.
