Proper Maintenance For Ceramic Bathroom Tiles
In the majority of bathrooms across the nation, you will find ceramic tiles used in the construction of the room.  Commonly used around bathtubs and showers as a back splash, the ceramic tiles can be used in many different areas around the bathroom to create a unique and colorful appearance for an area that is often overlooked when designing the décor of the home.  Millions of ceramic tiles are purchased by homeowners each year for professional installation or do it yourself projects for home bathrooms, creating a multi-million dollar industry for the manufacturers that create ceramic tiles.

Ceramic tiles are some of the most popular building materials for bathrooms because of the properties of the ceramic tiles.  The tiles are sturdy, resistant to heat, cold, and moisture, and are available in a wide variety of different designs and colors.  But perhaps the most important property of the ceramic tiles for homeowners is the fact that ceramic tiles are easily maintained.

Ceramic tiles are very easy to clean and do not require the use of harsh chemical agents to get them that way.  The best items to use to clean ceramic tiles are a mild soap or detergent applied with a damp sponge or thick cloth.  This will remove soap scum and water spots that are the most common causes of the tile needing cleaning.

There are certain items that are not recommended for cleaning ceramic tiles because of the risk of harming the tiles or the grout that is present between the tiles.  Harsh and abrasive chemical cleaners should be avoided as well as cleaning implements that may scratch or gouge the surface of the tile, such as metallic items or steel wool.  Anything that may damage the grout between the tiles should also be avoided as damaging the grout could weaken the stability of the tiles affected.

If mold begins to grow on the ceramic tiles due to the moisture that is commonly present in most bathrooms, the homeowner should move quickly to protect the ceramic tiles and the health of their family.  There are many commercial mold removers available in retail stores across the nation that can be used for removing mold that is growing on ceramic tiles and many people can pick them up at their local supermarket while on their regular shopping trip.  It is important to read the instructions for these commercial mold removers to make sure that they are safe to use on ceramic tiles and to ensure that you are using the product properly.

After a period of time, the grout between the tiles will need to be replaced due to deterioration or discoloration.  The instructions on how to replace the grout will depend on the type of ceramic tile that has been used in the bathroom and the width of the grout joints.  All of the supplies that will be needed for replacing the grout can generally be found at a local home improvement store along with instructions on how to replace the grout properly.
