How to turn your shower into a personal retreat

Your shower can be a personal retreat
Water has the power to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit
These days, the bathroom is used for more than just cleaning the body; it is also used as a personal retreat from the pressures of modern life. Water has the power to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit; and the shower, a place we conveniently use everyday, is the perfect place for a home spa. A home spa is a refreshing water therapy that promotes overall relaxation, wholeness, and balance. Many showering products for home spas are now available for turning your shower into a versatile, customized, and private water retreat.

You have many options for creating a personal home spa right in your shower. One of the most popular home spa products is the hydro-massage and showers that can mimic the effect in a steam room. A hydro massage shower takes the form of an adjustable showerhead with telescopic arms. It provides a custom shower by distributing the water as you like it. One great advantage of this adjustable shower is that it can accommodate people of different heights. Its adjustable feature also allows you to keep your hair from getting wet when you shower. All you have to do is move the telescopic arms down to adjust it. Using an adjustable showerhead allows you to sit in the shower, so you can shave and rinse your legs comfortably, or just be in a more comfortable position. Steam is a feature that can be added to a regular, or a telescopic and adjustable showerhead. Aside from being an effective cleaning agent, steam also promotes breathing and relaxation.

Your bathroom does not have to be large for you to enjoy the benefits of a home spa. A standard-sized bathroom can be turned into a luxurious sanctuary with the addition of a few inexpensive items. A simple way to make your bathroom more relaxing is to change the color of the walls to a soothing pastel green, gentle blue, or pale lilac. You can also create a rainforest effect by applying design appliqués of tropical plants and decorative leaves to bathroom surfaces.

On your “spa days,” wear a silky bathrobe and use a thick, soft, and fluffy bath towel made of 100% cotton to pamper yourself. You can also place aromatherapy candles that match your color scheme all around your bathroom. Their soft glow and scent can provide a warm and calming atmosphere. For an even more relaxing ambiance, plug your portable CD player in the bathroom and pop in a CD featuring nature sounds or classical music.  Before taking a shower, remember to make yourself a soothing cup of jasmine, chamomile, or green tea.

For the ultimate spa experience at home, use scented soaps, bath oil, and face masks. You can make your own bath oil by combining sweet almond oil or sunflower oil with a few drops of your preferred essential oil. Epson salts, together with a few drops of essential oils in the bath water, can effectively soothe tired muscles. You can make a body scrub that can seal in the moisture on your skin by blending Epson salts with kosher salt and grapeseed oil.
